[globalsouthdata] IGF Inputs by Data Privacy Brasil

Dear colleagues,

We would like to share our thematic inputs for the IGF 2025, which will be
held in Norway from June 23 to 27.

Among the thematic options, we have selected *"Artificial Intelligence,"
"Data Governance," *and* "Digital Cooperation"* as priorities for this
forum. Regarding the Global Digital Compact (GDC), our contribution was as
follows:

*The implementation of the GDC and the follow-up on the WSIS should be
complementary and occupy a prominent place within the IGF agenda, as this
is the most appropriate forum for such discussions. Having a
"main/high-level session" dedicated to both processes, providing updates
and addressing implementation challenges and goal fulfillment by
stakeholders, is essential for advancing digital governance. These sessions
should assess progress toward the WSIS action lines and the GDC objectives.
Additionally, a greater alignment between the IGF annual themes and the GDC
principles could foster coordination between the processes.*

*In particular, government representatives (who can coordinate efforts with
the Parliamentary Track) and international agencies—especially the
facilitators of WSIS (who can organize within the Open Forums)—should
report their achievements and gather feedback from other stakeholders. Both
moments can also include the participation of a representative from the UN
Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies (ODET), which is responsible
for coordinating the GDC implementation efforts.*

Finally, in coordination with the advocacy activities carried out in 2024,
we emphasized that:
*As stated in the Netmundial+10 Declaration, the IGF should serve as a node
to connect national and regional initiatives, fostering dialogue and
enhancing coordination on global Internet Governance discussions. To this
end, there could be a main session dedicated specifically to sharing best
practices related to regional challenges. Taking place on the first day of
the event, this session would present messages from the regional IGFs to
provide input for the global discussions. This would also require better
coordination within the regional initiatives to align their discussions
with the global IGF and define the themes to be tackled each year.*

We look forward to continuing this dialogue and global multistakeholder
coordination at the IGF in June, as well as in other relevant forums.
