Dear colleagues,
On behalf of Aláfia Lab, I'm happy to share with you our recently
translated report: *From meme to hate: how racism manifests on digital
platforms*
This study was conducted by Aláfia Lab’s Racism on Social Media Observatory
in partnership with the Digital Humanities Lab of the Federal University of
Bahia (LABHDUFBA). It explores how racism and its nuances are expressed
across social media platforms in Brazil, analyzing patterns of racist
discourse on both Instagram and Telegram.
- On Instagram, we examined how the platform’s public and highly visible
environment can facilitate racist expressions through posts and comments.
- On Telegram, we analyzed racist discourse in public and private chats,
considering the app’s technical affordances like large groups and channels,
as well as its approach to moderation.
Our goal with this report is to contribute to the global debate on how
harmful ideologies spread online and to support collective efforts against
racism in digital spaces. You can access the English version of the report
here

.
Please feel free to share it with your colleagues or networks who might
find it relevant, and don't hesitate to contact us if you have any comments
or questions.
Best regards,
